What is Fused Glass?
Fused glass is the process of joining pieces of glass by melting them together at high temperatures.
A sheet of clear glass is colored with
powdered glass enamel. The enamel is
sifted onto the glass.
It is then placed in the kiln.
When the inside temperature of
the kiln reaches above 1400
degrees Fahrenheit, the enamel
will adhere to the sheet of glass.
The colored glass is cut into
desired shapes using a
carbide-tipped glass cutter.
The cut designs are pieced together and placed in the kiln. When the inside
temperature of the kiln reaches above 1500 degrees Fahrenheit, the glass will melt
together to become one piece.
The final step in forming a dish is to place it into a mold and
back in the kiln to form desired shape.
